Japanese-American Internees Will Receive Honorary Degrees

I read with great anticipation a recent article by the Fresno Bee on the efforts by the California State University Board of Trustees to award honorary degrees to countless young men and women who were forced to abandon their studies due to World War II.  The main question is how many candidates the school system will find.  Many of these former students of the CSU and UC systems had to abandon school because of the interment camps they were sent to.  After the war was over, many of them could not afford to continue going to school.  In February 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order allowing the military to round up Japanese-Americans on the West Coast and imprison them in camps that included barbed wire and armed guards.  After Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese, the US citizens of Japanese descent were rounded up and sent to interment camps as found in this book, titled, "California Blossoms and Harvest Delights" (http://bestsellerpicks.blogspot.com).  UC and CSU plans go hand in hand with the recent efforts to award diplomas to Japanese-Americans removed from high school.

Honorary Degress:  Former CSU students whose studies were interrupted by World War II Internment (or their families) can call 562-951-4723 or e-mail Nisei@calstate.edu

Local history buff, Bill Secrest Jr. is the contact for Fresno State.  He can be reached at 559-488-6720

Former University of California students or their families can email HonoraryDegree@ucop.edu or call 510-987-0239.

It is time to redress the wrong we committed against these very gentle people.  Let us say never again should any group be treated the way Japanese Americans were treated during WWII.

What's So Hot About the new iPhone Upgrade, 3 G S Hot Spots

Singing the Praises of Apple's iPhone 3 G S vs. Palm Pre

On the hottest day of the start of the Summer season, Apple fans lined up to be the first ones to pick up and buy their new iPhone 3 G S.  None of them wanted to miss that launch.  As we waited in line, we talked to each other.  What truly transpired during these long hours was the undeniable expression of love for anything produced by Apple Inc.  In a time when Steve Jobs could not even attend the WWDC or World Wide Developer's Conference due to liver transplant surgery, the early adopters of the new upgraded iphone wanted to show their support for the company.

Weeks before the release, buzz and demand were calculated to be high for the iPhone 3 G S.  AT&T, the reseller, had to manage the events by posting a schedule for those who had pre-ordered the phone and those who were to come to purchase it.  From 7 am to 9 am, those who pre-ordered it could pick up their phone at our local stores.  At 9 am, the rest of us could go in to shop.  Yet, we still had to follow the line.  After getting to the desk of one of the sales associates, I heard some announcement by a top manager.  "If the sales continue at this pace, we may run out of 3 G S by 11 am," he said.

There are a few things to consider before understanding why this craze about the new phone exists in the first place.  Apple has lowered the price of the iPhone 3 G to $99 with a two-year contract.  So many first-time buyers can afford to get an iPhone.  If you are like some of my friends who had already had their iPhone, you may take advantage of the new software 3 G 3.0 download.  This way, the die-hard iPhone enthusiasts can be eligible for the upgrade.

What is hot about the iPhone?

The iPhone currently has an improved camera, a 3.2 megapixel camera that allows the users to automatically focus on a subject by touching it on the screen.  The new iPhone also comes equipped with the ability to record, share edit, and upload videos directly from the handset.  You can shoot video, edit it and share it.  You can even trip your footage by adjusting start and end points.  You can decide to publish it on Youtube.
